“The best long drink in the world” Topsail has created a contemporary tasting event together with The Beer Academy. A fun beer tasting aboard one of our historic vessels is a new & fascinating alternative to wine tasting, ideal for a unique corporate or private event. The Beer Academy’s experts are all experienced brewers who are entertaining and highly knowledgeable. After a short introduction on ’What is beer?’ including interesting facts covering the brewing process and the four main ingredients: hops, barley, yeast,and water, plus anecdotes on the history of beer, the tasting will begin. First you will find out ’how to taste beer’ using sight, smell and taste plus the tasting wheel. Have you ever noticed the aroma of bananas, toffee...or tinned sweetcorn...in your pint?!
A range of beer styles will be tasted; lagers, ales, bitters and stouts. You will learn to match beer and food with a tasty selection of nibbles, such as a beer which is sweet but has a bitter ending, tasted with a sweet digestive biscuit & strong cheese to ’mirror’ the flavours.
Each beer is tasted ’blind’ - guests are asked to identify the brand; this can be made competitive by creating teams. It is harder than you might think, even if you think you know your beer! A small selection of nibbles will be available in conjunction with the tasting, plus your choice of a delicious buffet or seated dinner by our top caterers, deWintons. Please note this event is for private/corporate charters and not for individuals. Prices start from £144 + VAT per head, based on 50 guests for a 4-hour event static at the quayside in St Katharine Docks, with Executive finger buffet by deWintons and tapas with the tasting.
