Topsail Events and Charters - Ships, Sailing, Cruising, Event Management
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I charter a vessel at any time of year?

A. Absolutely yes! Autumn clay-shoots, Christmas parties, New Year cruises, Topsail Charters sail all year round. What could be more inviting than the panelled interiors of our beautiful ships with a roaring log fire? For static events we can also arrange deck heaters and awnings.

Q. Are the ships suitable for all ages?

A. Our events are tailored individually to your specific requirements, including the choice of vessel. Although not all historic ships are suitable for children, if you do require this option we will do our best to find you a suitable ship.

Q. Are the ships suitable for disabled persons?

A. As our events are aboard historic ships the vessels do not all have disabled facilities, however we will do everything we can to follow current legislation and endeavour to maximise access wherever possible.

Q. Who will host the event?

A. An experienced Topsail Charters Event Manager will be on board to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day. At Topsail we pride ourselves on our high standards of event management so you can be sure that nothing will be left to chance.

Q. What should I wear?

A. As the occasion demands – dress can be as formal or as relaxed, as you choose. However, flat-soled shoes are always a good idea aboard ships and for group racing days, we would recommend casual dress. Wrap up warm in winter and bring extra layers even in summer as it can get sometimes cold on deck.

Q. Do these ships have engines?

A. Yes. As a concession to the modern age, engines complement wind power on all of our classic sailing ships.

Q. Are there good galley facilities?

A. The interiors are spacious and well kept with generously proportioned galleys. Our caterers are adept at producing the finest foods afloat.

Q. Can guests take part?

A. Yes, if they wish they can gain ‘hands on’ experience of sailing and even racing, our classic ships. Even experienced yachtsmen will be amazed at the speed and agility of a 100-year-old, 100 ton Thames sailing barge.

Q. Will I be seasick?

A. No. You would be the first of our clients in 15 years to suffer seasickness on the Thames! Our ships are large and stable under nearly all conditions.
